1. ANR Stay Kids
Natural born pop stars from Miami Beach. This is elegant, crazed, enormous, unstoppable, wonderful. A huge, smart pop song to whip your hair to. TVOTR, David Bowie and Beach Boys are in here. From the album "Stay Kids".
2. LONEY DEAR Loney Blues
Sweden's premiere magician returns. Like the tide washing over you on a summer day, this undulating, psychedelic song is going to carry you away, slide gently into your heart and break it with a key change.
3. MEMORY TAPES Today Is Our Life
New Jersey's one-man alchemist returns with a mini-symphony, a psychedelic girl group prog disco jam to stop you in your stride. Dayve Hawk is in a class of his own.
4. NIVA Ghost In My Head
Disco. It takes so many forms. And it's an excellent vehicle for, well, almost anything. Sweden's Niva takes this insisitent, pulsating and utterly exquisite little ghost of a song from his debut EP, "Feverish Dreams".
5. THE CONCRETES What We've Become
Lisa Milberg looks back at a relationshop, nights spent playing records til dawn, while snaking across an underlit dancefloor
6. KELE On The Lam (ANR mix)
Kele Okeroke's wonderful paranoia and fantasy electro pop is twisted into widescreen gonzoid dance opera by ANR
7. HOUSES Soak It Up
This little gem was created in Hawaii on solar-powered laptop in a hut without electricity by Dexter Tortoriello last summer. You can feel the sunshine and taste the calm. A fantastic elegant, minimalist pop song.
8. GUARDS Resolution Of One
Riding on a wave of turbo surf rock with Roy Orbison right into Twin Peaks, hair billowing out behind, Richie Follins (also in Cults) is singing his heart out here.
9. YFTB Skimper Woodsy
What to say about this..? Well, it skittles some joyful African singing over tidal banks of old skool synths under twinkling keyboard stars. It's from Chicago and it's infernally catchy.
10. GRUFF RHYS Shark Ridden Waters
National treasure? Oh we think so. Defintely. This is up with his best. Surf rock, xylophones, sinister synths, seagulls, detuned radios, absolutely exquisite melodies and beautiful confusion. A truly excellent song abut thunderbolts.
11 LEVERAGE MODELS Dreaming Of Accidents
Renaissance man and New York art rock legend Shannon Fields sent us this with precious little information. Saxophones are here, Gary Numan is there, Brian Eno is blindfolded and pushing all the buttons he likes the feel of, fat filthy bass is herding them all over the top. Magnificent and massive.
12 A LULL Mammals
We hear These New Puritans, Beta Band, Terry Gilliam, Portishead, Escher and Thom Yorke all informing this wonderfully catchy, colossal and bewildering Heath Robinson-esque human machine pop music from Chicago.
Memory Tapes machine tools Ms Maguire's debut and makes it seem sweetly mournful then dynamically vengeful. Pulsating and lush.
14. MNDR I Go Away
One of 2011's brightest new stars; MNDR, aka Amanda and Peter, channel Cyndi Lauper, Prince and Portishead here to wonderful classic sad pop effect.
15. MEMORYHOUSE Lately (Troisieme)
Deepening the dreamlike mood, this Canadian duo's beautiful and spooky, rippling and elegiac piano dreamscape is one of the most beguiling things we have heard in ages.
16. THE SILENT LEAGUE Let it Roll
Taken from the forthcoming Best Of, these Brookylnite chamber pop legends gently and unhurriedly unfurl this honest, open and heartbreakingly lush song. Oh, and it builds and builds and resolves into a mesmerising orchestral climax that, frankly, you just don't hear every day. There are 23 people playing on this song.
17. CHAPPO Come Home
Relentless, direct and heart-warming song from Brooklyn's Chappo featured in the recent iPad advert. It kind of makes you want to run around the room, smiling at imaginary friends.
18 THE GAY BLADES Mick Jagger
Staying in Brooklyn, The Gay Blades return with a swagger, a grind, a wink and an ear cocked to the Rolling Stones disco period. Funky. There, we said it. Pretty angry too.
Maar het leukste aan deze compilatie is het feit dat je ze geheel legaal en gratis kan downloaden via The Guardian.
