Wonderful , that's how you could describe the 3rd album of UK band Kyte. After two promising albums they've now released, Dead Waves. Although that's what I conclude after checking them out on the world wide web, however some sources speak about Dead Waves as their first LP.
Kyte comes from Leicester, which isn't an industrial city like Manchester and Liverpool but also produces fine music (like Kasabian). They make neo-shoegaze, also called nu-gaze which can be considered as the 3rd generation of shoegaze. So they're more M83-like, not Slowdive or My Blood Valentine. They're quite popular in the UK and seem to do well in Japan.
In fact, in some songs it's hard to tell the difference between M83 and Kyte, now I don't mind cause M83 is one of my all-time favourites. But Kyte doesn't limit their style to shoegaze, they show us they're not affraid to make some nice disco-pop and indie-rock too.
Most of all, I love their ambient pop sound. The vocalist, Nick Moon, has a beautiful soft voice which remembers me of Delphic. Kyte uses a lot of electronics which is fantastic, combined with the vocals and ambience. Some people will even classify Dead Waves as space-gaze. Anyhow I'm touched by this wonderful album and band.
Not only their music is great, I also like their cover art!
Dead Waves will be released on 19 April 2010.
